I would like to say a big thank you to all of you out there who have helped out so much, in participating actively, coming down to support your friends and being so enthusiastic abt the house.

We are currently 2 points ahead of BW and our hopes of clinching the overall champions title for the aesthetic season depends on our chances for writer's guild. Many of you have sent in many pieces of work and we have a reason to feel confident! :)

Results for Writer's Guild will only be out earliest friday the week after CTs (28 March) 'cos they'll need time to read through the 100+ entries! so PATIENCE, dear friends! HH FTW!!! :D

As such, current house standings are as follows...

We are currently doing very well and a large part of the credit shld go out to you guys, for signing up actively and providing the participants with all the support!

We won Indian Rangoli and Japanese Chess yesterday and came in 4th for Congkak!

HH is currently in FIRST PLACE, 3 points ahead of BW.

IHC Green Race

Hey all!

Congratulations to the HH team which came in 2nd for IHC Green Race (behind BW)! Well done to the 5 members!

I think right now in terms of the overall points and placing, HH has 34 points, 1 point behind BW who is in 1st place.

Fret not! There are still 3 more IHC competitions TOMORROW (see details in post below)! There are still a few vacancies so feel free to sign up with House D!

Drama feste and IHC

Drama feste results: HH came in 3rd =)

MR, having won the best play and best director, came in first.
BW won the best script and best actress, and came in second.

However, though drama feste is over, what we can do is to participate in all the upcoming events and win points for HH!

Dear J1s,
Cultural Day is taking place this coming Wednesday (27th Feb), and in view of the J2 GP CT1 on Friday, we really need you guys to particpate enthusiastically! The 3 events for Cultural Day are Malay Congkak, Indian Rangoli, and Japanese Chess. I will now explain each of the games in detail for the benefit of those who are unfamiliar with them.
Malay Congkak (Mancala)
Items and Setup: Congkak board and 98 small shells, seeds or stones. 7 seeds are placed in each hole except the stores, which remain empty.

Objective: The objective of the game is to capture more seeds than one's opponent.

Sowing:

Players take turns moving the seeds except in the first move which is performed simultaneously. On a turn, a player chooses one of the seven holes under their control. The player removes all seeds from this hole, and distributes them in each hole clockwise from this hole, in a process called sowing. Sowing skips an opponent's store, but does not skip a player's own store.

If the last seed falls into an occupied hole, all the seeds are removed from that hole, and are sown starting from that hole. The process continues until the last seed falls into a player's store, or an empty hole.

If the last seed sown falls into a player's own store, they immediately earn another turn, which can begin at any of the seven holes under their control.

Capturing:

If the last seed sown falls into an empty hole on the current player's side, then the player captures all the seeds in the hole directly across from this one, on the opponent's side. If the opposing hole is empty, no seeds are captured.

Each game will last for exactly 15 minutes. After which, players must end the game and start counting the number of beads in the store house.

Indian Rangoli

There wil be 2 teams of 4 per House. Each team is required to create a Rangoli piece (a form of sandpainting decoration that uses finely ground white powder and colours) from scratch (coloured rice will be provided) within 2 hours.

The format of the game will be a central judging, at the end of the competition. All the rangoli pieces will be judged by the following criteria:
- Creativity/Innovation
- Use of Colour
- Relevance to Theme
- Uniqueness and Overall Artistic Appeal
Japanese Chess (Shogi)
As the instructions to this game is rather lengthy, I will leave it out of this email (to avoid spamming). However, please do visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shogi to get an overview of how the game is like. :)
The venues and times for the respective events are as follows:

All houses are free to have as many entrants as they wish, and each entrant is free to submit as many entries as they wish. Participation points will be given to every entry submitted.
Students are freely allowed to enter poetry or short fiction, with the limit that all works of prose must be, at most, of 500 words in length. Prose and poetry will be judged separately. All works must be in English, and be entirely original.
Participants are to submit hard copies of their work to Mr. Wee (CCA teacher for Writer's Guild), by slotting them into a special box at the Teacher's Office, or to email soft copies of their work to writers.ihc@gmail.com.
The winning entry in both prose and poetry will win 5 points for their House; the first runner up, 3 points, and the second runner up will win 2 points.

ONE EARTH GREEN RACE (Tuesday 26th Feb, 3pm - 5pm)
Each house will send 1 representative team consisting of 4 or 5 members.
The amazing race consists of 4 station games. Teams will score points according to how fast they complete the whole race and their performance for each station game.

JAPANESE CHESS (SHOGI)
6 participants per house. If a house happens to have less than 6 participants, it will be a walkover for the opponent.

Hello guys! As you probably already know, the IHC Aesthetics season is going to start in just about 2 weeks' time! :D We've had a good start so far by winning Orientation, so let us all continue to put in our best and maintain our advantageous position.

For the year of 2008, the IHC events that will be held during the Aesthetics season are as follows:

Week 6: Writer's Guild (4th Feb - 3rd Mar), Photography (4th Feb - 3rd Mar)

Week 7: Cybergaming (11th, 12th, 13th and 14th Feb)

Week 8: Bridge (20th Feb), Chess Day - International Chess, Chinese Chess and Weiqi (20th Feb), Dramafeste (22nd and 23rd Feb)

Week 9: Cultural Day - Indian Rangoli, Malay Congkak and Japanese Chess (27th Feb), Musicfeste (28th Feb), One Earth Green Race (29th Feb)

That's a total of 12 minor events and 1 major event (Dramafeste), which adds up to a whooping 87 points in total!! Hence, on behalf of the House D, I would like to ask you guys to help rahrah your OGs to go down and participate in these IHC events as much as possible. Signup sheets will be posted on the House Board outside LT 2 from tomorrow onwards. Let's all do our best and rock for IHC 2008! :)
